Lauren Calder
Lauren Calder is a Psychologist registered with both the HCPC (UK) and the HPCSA (South Africa), with more than twenty years of clinical experience in private practice. She holds a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2005), completed additional training in Transpersonal Psychology, and is trained in EMDR and Child and Family Mediation.
Throughout her career Lauren has worked with adults, couples, families and adolescents across a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, life transitions, grief, family conflict and personality dynamics. Lauren specialises in relationship and relational dynamics, working with both individuals and couples to understand recurring interpersonal patterns, navigate conflict, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional connection, and develop healthier, more secure ways of relating to themselves and others. Alongside her private practice she has worked as a psychologist within schools, employee assistance programmes and corporate settings, lectured in psychology at postgraduate university level, supervised psychology students and associate psychologists, and consulted to a range of organisations on psychological wellbeing and mental health.
Lauren's approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches, Jungian psychology, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Transactional Analysis, schema therapy and solution-focused therapy. Rather than applying a single model to every client, she believes therapy should be adapted to the individual, recognising that each person's history, relationships, personality, values and search for meaning are unique. Central to Lauren's work is the belief that people often seek therapy during significant periods of transition. Whether prompted by relationship difficulties, anxiety, loss, burnout, compassion fatigue, or a growing sense that life no longer feels meaningful or purposeful, these experiences can become opportunities for greater self-understanding and lasting psychological change. Rather than viewing such crises simply as problems to be solved, she sees them as invitations to explore deeper questions of identity, purpose and the patterns that shape our lives. Her aim is not only to reduce symptoms but also to help clients develop greater emotional resilience, strengthen their relationships, reconnect with what gives their lives meaning, and move towards a more authentic and fulfilling way of living.
Alongside her clinical practice, Lauren has developed and facilitated workshops on mindfulness, stress management, personality development and emotionally intelligent parenting. Her longstanding interest in the psychology of meaning, resilience and professional wellbeing has also led her to develop resources focused on burnout and compassion fatigue, particularly within healthcare settings. More recently, her interests have expanded into digital mental health innovation, where she works at the intersection of psychology, research, technology and healthcare, developing evidence-informed psychological resources and contributing to projects that increase access to effective mental health support.
Lauren works online with adults and couples across the UK, offering a collaborative, thoughtful and evidence-informed approach that balances practical change with deeper psychological understanding, helping clients not only navigate difficult periods in their lives, but emerge from them with greater clarity, purpose and psychological resilience
